Beach Clean-ups with khmer ocean life

Since the end of 2024 KOL has been doing regular beach clean-ups in Kampot City.

why are we doing clean-ups?

By cleaning up our local river beaches, we can help reduce the amount of trash that flows into the oceans.

By collecting trash, we hope to inspire others to do the same.

Raise awareness about pollution and its dangers to our local wildlife.

where are we doing the clean ups?

Khmer Ocean Life is conducting clean-ups at a local beach downstream of Kampot City, where trash washes ashore and poses a threat to local wildlife. Additionally, this trash can be carried into the ocean, creating a serious health hazard for marine fauna.

Data collection with ocean conservancy

In collaboration with Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Clean-up project, we collect data during our clean-ups, including the number of items, total weight, distance covered, and duration. This information is then shared with a central database.

what is the future of this project?

In the future, we want to invite more people to join our beach clean-ups, helping us raise awareness about conservation efforts and the critical threats posed by plastic pollution, particularly in our rivers and oceans.

We also want to connect these clean-up initiatives with our outreach programme to inspire the younger generation to take action and contribute to Cambodia’s conservation efforts. Currently, we deliver presentations on plastic pollution, and this initiative would be an excellent opportunity to turn awareness into meaningful action.
