What is the documentary about?
In May and July 2025, Keoni and Cheryl of "Human of This Planet" visited Khmer Ocean Life to listen to Chhayhy’s and Nathan’s stories, experiences, and dreams, following them in their day-to-day lives, visiting family and friends, and documenting their work with Khmer Ocean Life. In the documentary, you get a small glimpse into their life in Cambodia and their impactful work as marine scientists who are fighting to protect Cambodia’s marine wildlife.
Who are "Human of this planet"?
Human of This Planet is an initiative brought to life by Cheryl and Keoni, a duo with experience in social work, storytelling, and filmmaking. Together, they traveled around Cambodia to share the untold narratives of people from all walks of life. By listening to people’s life stories, dreams, and struggles, they capture an honest picture of Cambodian life, humanity, and the people who make the world so diverse, complex, and beautiful.
The premiere
In June 2026 the Human of this Planet documentary finally premiered. Visiting different Cities and Communities, the three part series was first shown to the public. For the premiere the team went out to Phnom Penh to be part of the first screening in the institut français du cambodge. The event that was sold out within a week, was a full success and we at Khmer Ocean Life were so happy to have our team members stories told on the big screen.
Khmer Ocean Life also had the honour to host the "Currents" early screening in the Kampot Dolphin Ecotour Visitor Centre, as well as showing the movie to the children at Puthi-School, who were there when the documentary was filmed. With lots of visitors joining us, we were excited to look back on filming but also to see how far we have come since then.
When and where can i watch the Documentary?
Human of This Planet’s first documentary will be released in three parts, on three seperate dates through September and October 2026. Each part focusses on different stories, people and lives.
1. "Roots" on the 8th of September
2. "Currents" on the 22nd of September
3. "ReMade" on the 6th of October
Each film will be released at 6PM ICT (Indochina Time) on the Human of this planet YouTube channel.
